Let us introduce our Department President for 2009-2010:

Photo coming soon

Barbara A. Valley is a life member of Auxiliary # 95 in Mt.Vernon. She became a member in 1991, serving in various offices, including President. She has also served as 12th District President. On the Department level,  Barbara has served six years prior to being elected Department President.
Born the youngest of eight children, she has 7 brothers whom have all served in the military. Two of her brothers are now deceased. She lost her father in 1982 and her mother in 1988. She was born and raised in Columbus and now resides in Danville.  She works as a hair stylist in Mt. Vernon.
Barbara has been married for 43 years to Rene Valley. Rene is also part of the AMVETS family.  He is a Past National Commander of the Sons of AMVETS, first going up the chairs on the Local, District and State levels, and serving as Local Commander, 12th District Commander, and State Commander.
Barbara and Rene have two children;  a son, Rene, Jr. (Chuck),  and a daughter Lacie.  She is also the proud grandmother of two, Natasha and Chad. Chad serves in the Ohio National Guard.
The President’s theme for 2009-2010 is “They Served for Us ~ Now Let Us Serve Them.

President Barbara has chosen  “Ohio’s Fisher Houses”  as her President’s Project. www.fisherhouse.org/theHouses/ohio

A Fisher House™ is "a home away from home" for families of patients receiving medical care at major military and VA medical centers. The homes are normally located within walking distance of the treatment facility or have transportation available. There are 43 Fisher Houses located on 18 military installations and 12 VA medical centers.  Ohio currently has two homes; one at the Dayton VAMC opened in 1990, the other at the Cincinnati VAMC, that opened in 2001.  Currently plans are underway for establishing another Ohio home at the Cleveland VAMC.

By contributing to the President’s project, you can make a difference in the lives of service members, veterans, and their families when they need it the most.  While Fisher Houses have full-time salaried managers, they depend on volunteers and voluntary support to enhance daily operations and facilitate program expansion, along with providing for the comfort and needs of their guests.

Please remember if you choose to make a donation to the Fisher House, send it through the Ohio AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary Department of OH, and earmark for the President’s project.  Your support will be greatly appreciated.
